Key Programming via OBD

General Instructions

  • Before removing the FEM on the bench - connect via OBD and make sure that the unit is not unlocked already by other locksmith, if so, perform key learning directly.
  • If all keys are lost, you have to read the ISN number from the DME.

In the photo of the unit, you can see that it is FEM, along with its SW/HW and OEM part number. You need those numbers if you need to replace the module.

Tips. FEM and BDC are often shown as one menu in programmers, but they are different modules with different procedures. FEM is usually done on the bench (if not unlocked before by other locksmith), while most BDC1 versions can be done fully via OBD2.

Since the EEPROM chip is covered with lacquer, it is quite difficult to desolder. Because of this, the EEPROM or PCB tracks are often damaged during the process, especially by beginners. After such damage, communication with the module is often lost or the relay may start clicking continuously. Therefore, we recommend using solder-free clips such as the Autel APA-103 or similar tools from other manufacturers. TIP: Before reading, run a soldering iron across all EEPROM pins to remove the lacquer and ensure good contact for the clip.
